RISO SILKSCREENING?
A fusion of digital and analogue
direct-to-screen, stencil-making system
for silkscreening.
time-consuming, and messy processes.
large businesses, educators, and hobbyists.
How does it work?
DIGITAL SCREEN MAKINGPrepare your digital design file. Just like in traditional silkscreening- each color is printed individually on a sepaprate screen. “Print” your digital file from your computer.
Stretch the RISO silkscreen master (mesh) onto a frame and send it through the digital screen burner after sending your file to “print.”
RISO screen burners are a dry thermal process, using heat to melt a plastic coating off the RISO mesh, using your digial design to make the stencil.
After the screen is made, print it just like traditional silkscreening! Ready to print onto fabric, paper, canvas, or other apparel with no water or dry time.
What are the benefits of RISO silkscreening?
- Rapid Production: Screens can be created in a few minutes, going from design to print-ready in roughly 10 minutes, compared to hours with traditional methods.
- One-Touch Operation: The process is as simple as using an office printer, requiring no specialized, highly skilled labor.
- No Drying Time: Because the process is dry, screens are ready for use immediately after imaging
- No Water or Chemicals: The system eliminates the need for water, emulsion, degreasers, or cleaning agents, resulting in no wastewater.
- No Darkroom Needed: Because there is no light-sensitive emulsion, it can be done in an office or small studio setting
- High Resolution: Riso digital screen makers can achieve 600–1200 dpi resolution, allowing for fine lines, smooth gradients, and photographic images that are difficult to achieve with conventional screen printing.
- Perfect Registration: Because the stencil is made directly from digital data, registration between colors is much easier to manage.
